Maintenance Technology

Entry Requirement
Successfully completed the Senior Secondary School Education and offered subjects such as: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English Language.

Content
The qualification can help you enter the engineering industry, create and maintain anything from utility systems, plant services, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, power generation systems and ancillary equipment. This is the main knowledge-based vocational qualification to get you started.

  • Level 1 (Certificate) is essential for people starting out in a career as an engineering maintenance operator or technician.
  • Level 2 (Diploma) will suit you if your work involves the installation and maintenance of engineering systems. This will enhance your knowledge and skills in the industry, likely from a role where you work under supervision.
  • Level 3 (Advanced Diploma) will give you an in-depth knowledge and skill in engineering maintenance, and a great deal of technical skills plus a sound understanding of safety, tools and equipment. With this qualification, you can work with minimum supervision or supervise others.

Assessment
For each of the qualifications, you will complete a number of practical assignments and online knowledge tests.

Career Pathways/Progression
The qualifications will help you develop a career in mechanical engineering maintenance. They could lead to a number of job roles including:

  • Engineering operator
  • Engineering maintenance technician
  • Mechanical engineering technician
  • Toolmaker/machine setter

If you would like to develop your career even further after taking these qualifications, you might want to consider working towards professional registration as an engineering technician. At this stage, you may even consider a move into higher education.
